What Does the SOS Warning Mean?

Your car's emergency call (eCall) system has a backup battery inside the telematics unit. This battery keeps the SOS function working even if the main battery dies — for example, in a crash.

Over time (typically 3–6 years), this backup battery degrades. When it can no longer hold a charge, your dashboard displays a warning and logs fault codes like:

B1916 F0 B1916 F2 U140000 B1052 07

The fix is straightforward — we replace the cells inside the telematics battery unit. No need for a brand new module, and a fraction of the dealership cost.

Common Questions

What does the SOS warning light mean?
Your car's emergency call system has a backup battery that keeps the SOS function working even if the main battery dies. Over time (typically 3–6 years), this battery degrades and triggers a dashboard warning. The fix is replacing the cells inside the telematics unit.
Is my car safe to drive with the SOS warning?
Yes, the warning doesn't affect your car's ability to drive. It only means the emergency call system won't work on backup power. However, it can cause MOT advisory notes and may affect insurance in some cases.
What's the difference between postal and fitting?
With the postal service (£49.99), you or a mechanic remove the battery, post it to us, and we replace the cells and send it back. You'll need VCDS or OBD11 to reset the code. With the full fitting service (£180), you bring the car to us and we do everything.
How long does the repair take?
If you bring the car to us, we aim to have you back on the road within 60 minutes. For postal repairs, we typically turn them around within 2–3 working days.
What fault codes does this fix?
The most common are B1916F2 (VW Group — backup battery depleted), U140000 (insufficient voltage), and B1052 07 (mechanical failure). On Jaguar/Land Rover it shows as "SOS Limited Functionality" and on BMW as "Emergency Call System Failure."
Do you offer a warranty?
Yes, every repair comes with a 12-month warranty covering the replacement cells and our workmanship.
